What's the Deeper Learning Hawaii Network?
Deeper Learning Hawaii is a network of local schools/educators dedicated to the growth of deeper learning practices to benefit the students of Hawaii.
Who is already involved?
Currently, school leaders and educators from Mid Pacific Institute, SEEQS: the School for Examining Essential Questions of Sustainability, Malama Honua Public Charter School, and Wai'alae Elementary Public Charter School are driving the effort. We look forward to expanding our core group!
What are the goals of the Deeper Learning Hawaii Network?
We want to connect like-minded leaders and educators to share best practice ideas, talk about problems of practice, and build up a resilient network to continue our work and build our network. Our goal is to learn and grow from each other and the work we are doing in our schools.
What are "Deeper Learning practices"?
Deeper Learning practices help students master core academic content, while learning how to think critically, collaborate, communicate effectively, direct their own learning, and believe in themselves.
Project-based learning, mastery-based grading, student-led conferences, portfolio defenses, public presentations of learning, interdisciplinary learning, co-teaching, integrated technology use... anything that feels like it helps students get to the core of the learning process... are all examples of deeper learning practices!
